# Retire a revoked runner's record

> Deletes the record of a runner that has already been revoked. A runner still in service is refused: revoke it first with `PATCH {"action":"revoke"}`, which is the step that takes it out of service. A revoked runner still holding an active lease is refused too, until the lease is released or expires. Retiring the record then removes its leases and its events and clears any fleet affinity, so the next assignment picks freely.
